Connecting to the body is one way to help with depression and anxiety. Many psychologists and therapists agree that without a healthy body, it's almost impossible to have a healthy mind. That means a healthy diet, exercise, and recognizing what's going on with your body.
Many skills for dealing with anxiety and depression start by observing your own body. Take a look and tell yourself what's going on. Are your shoulders tense, is your head hurting, does it feel like there's pressure on your chest? Or, are you feeling good, relaxed, and calm?
One particular DBT skill is called TIPP. It stands for Temperature, Intense exercise, Progressive muscle relaxation, and Paced breathing. This is a great way to take a bodily inventory and releasing stress and anxiety.
