I need to set some goals. There are lots of different categories in which I need to set goals. I need to set therapy goals, life goals, etc. I like using SMART goals. SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time bound. It's a great way to set goals that you can stick to.
I need to set some goals that I can stick with. I need to set goals about a job, my weight, being productive, and what I want to accomplish in therapy. I've got a few ideas, like getting better mentally, losing another 80 pounds, getting a job, and waking up earlier. There's a good way to set these goals, but it requires a lot more detail.
Let's look at the goal of waking up earlier. While I was in residential I was up at 6 AM every morning, but since I've been back home I find it difficult to be up by 7:30, when it's time to get the kids ready for school. So I'm going to set a SMART goal about getting up earlier. Specific; I want to wake up by 7 AM every morning of the week. Measurable; I will set an alarm to wake up by 7 AM. Attainable; instead of waking up at 7:30, I can wake up a half hour earlier. Relevant; I can wake up by 7 AM and be more productive throughout the day. Time bound; I will wake up by 7AM every weekday for the next two weeks.
I'm hopeful that setting an alarm and waking up by 7 AM for the next two weeks will be enough to get into a healthier routine. Then, I'll be able to set an alarm for even earlier, eventually getting to wake up by 6 AM every weekday morning. I'll set more goals as I reach the goals that I have set, now.
